Today was one of those days that made me happy I chose this career. My client hired me almost 2 years ago on her charge of intoxication assault. The initial offer included a strong chance of prison time. I knew that there was something wrong in how the case was handled by SAPD. I also knew that there were issues with the medical records provided to the state by the hospital. Last week we rejected the offer of 5 years of probation to the charged offense. We appeared in court today for a discovery hearing. The state agreed that I was correct about the case. My client was able to plead to a class B misdemeanor and 1 year of deferred adjudication. I would like to commend Joe Gonzales, and his staff at the DA's office, for their commitment to true justice.
